Another way to donate to our Parish is to shop at Kroger’s and sign up to give your reward points to Ss. Simon and Jude. If you are an existing rewards member, go to www.krogercommunityrewards.com, sign in, click on Michigan and click on “Enroll.” Ss. Simon and Jude’s reward number is EU671. If you only shop occasionally at Kroger, use alternate rewards ID 734-722-1343. You get the discount, and we get the points. Just check you receipt--it should say, “At your request, Kroger’s is donating to SS Simon and Jude”. Thanks!!
SS Simon and Jude is in need of altar servers. If a child, you must have made your communion; adults are welcome too. Looking especially for Saturday masses but may need you Sunday as well. Call or text Carolyn Gregones at (734) 765-3298. Thank you!
The Christian Service Commission is trying to determine if there is an interest in parishioners needing rides to church and parishioners willing to provide a ride to church for people who don’t have any transportation. Drivers would only be expected to drive someone near their closest cross streets and when they were available. There would be times a driver is not available every weekend. At this time we have two gentleman requesting a ride to church. If you are interested, please call Claudia at 734-895-6348.
We are in need of more commentators and lectors to add to our ministry. If you would like to try your voice at proclaiming the word, please consider joining us. You may only want to be a commentator until you learn the process. Or you may be ready to jump in with two feet and be a lector.
Every Sunday after Mass, two parishioners take the Eucharist to the residents of Ameircan House, just around the corner from our church. We leave right after Communion, and takes about 20-30 minutes. At present there are eight people in the ministry. One person is leaving, and we would like to get three more people which would make ten people or five pairs. Each pair would have to be available one out of five Sundays. This ministry is a very inspiring experience and the residents really appreciate us. If you are interested, please contact Loretta Sovel after 4:30 Saturday Mass.
We need people to help set-up, serve, and clean up at the lunches. We have three separate committees, so you would not be needed at all funerals. We also need people who can bring cakes and Jell-O for the lunches. If you can be of any help, please contact Kathy Lancaster.
We are looking for volunteers to help water, weed, and clean up the garden areas during the summer. There is no “formal” or “group” gardening time, no meetings. Volunteers can show up on their own schedule and can spend as much or as little time as they want. This could be “family time” if you want to include your children. If you are interested, please call Chris Dixon if you’d like to join them in keeping our grounds looking beautiful.
We need your help! We are looking for your help on suggestions for generating income to sustain the parish. If you have any ideas, please drop them by the parish office or in the Finance Council drop box in the social hall adjacent to the St. Vincent de Paul office. Thank you, Finance Council
Our parish uses an Online Giving system called WeShare. This will allow you to make your donations without writing a check or finding cash each week. You can set up a recurring weekly or monthly payment, allocate different amounts for our different collections, and view your complete, accurate financial records at any time. It saves all of us time and is a win-win for our parish!
Many times during the year our parish has celebrations during Mass, such as baptisms, confirmations, corporate communions for our organizations, and others. Our sacristan uses bows on the end of the pews at the front and back of the section reserved for these special Masses. We apologize for the inconvenience of displacing a parishioner from his/her usual seat, but please sit in another section for that Mass. Thank you for your cooperation.
When you make a monetary donation to St. Vincent de Paul (SVdP) using your SVdP envelopes, 100% of your donation stays in our parish and is used to serve the needy here in our area of Westland. Non-monetary donations to St. Vincent de Paul, including monthly food collection and the Christmas Giving Tree, are also used for the needy in our area.
At each weekend Mass four people are asked to present gifts at the Offertory. Ordinarily our sacristan will ask the person(s) who had the Mass offered to present the gifts. However, at a Baptism Mass and certain other special occasions the people involved will present the gifts.
With the temperatures dropping, our heating bills have been rising, and as a means of trying to offset our costs we need to aim to give more. One way we can do this is by having Masses offered for our friends and loved ones. Fr. Gerry says approximately 320 Masses a year. If we have two intentions for each Mass at $10 each, we could raise $6,400, which would help with expenses.
Frequently parishioners will call to place a family member or friend on the prayer list for a surgery or brief illness and forget to notify the office after their recovery. Our prayer list has grown quite extensively so at the beginning of each quarter we will be refreshing our prayer list for the sick. If there is someone who needs to remain on the sick list please contact the parish office.
Lipstick on your collar? OOPS! Lipstick on our purificators? OH, NO! Purificators are the small linen cloths that are used to wipe the wine cups after drinking of the blood of Christ. It is very difficult to remove lipstick from the purificators. So please, please, BLOT, BLOT your lips if wearing lipstick. This will help us save not only time, but also money on having to purchase new purificators. Thank you for your help!
